Sorting your symbols

Eh - what's that funny wiggly line all about then? Do you sometimes feel like you have to crack a code before you put a wash on? Our guide below will help you decode those strange symbols.

Washing Symbols

  • Uh-uh, no bleaching allowed.

  • Those broken lines mean it's a wool wash and needs to be a gentle wash cycle.

  • The hand gives it away - these clothes must be hand washed only. Hard work!

  • Don't go near the dry cleaner with clothes carrying this symbol! Which is great as it relieves the pressure on your purse and you can go and buy something nice instead.

  • Cotton wash on the hottest cycle your machine's got.

  • A non-broken line means a synthetic wash on a medium to gentle cycle. The temperature needs to be what's on the label.

Drying Symbols

  • Raining outside? Who cares? Just shove your clothes in the dryer.

  • Never ever tumble dry - or you'll be sorry.

  • Dry your clothes flat please!

  • You've got to hang these up to dry.

Ironing Symbols

  • Get your shades on, this iron's cool.

  • Ironing's a no-no.

  • Yep, you guessed it. Three means hot.

  • Two dots means your iron should be warm.
